Enhancement

Oracle enhanced MetaSolv Solution and provided the ability to start the Background Processor Job Master from a command line.  Previously, customers were required to open the Job Master application by double-clicking the jmaster.exe and manually login by entering the User ID, Password, and selecting the Application Server value.  This feature allows customers to configure the Background Processor Job Master to automatically start-up by creating a BAT file or Windows Service to handle the process.

Availability

The Background Processor Job Master enhancement is available in the versions listed below.

Demonstration

The steps outlined below demonstrate the Job Master's enhanced capability to be started from a command line.

1. Install the enhanced Job Master application (ZAC installation method defaults to C:\MSS directory)

2. Open a Command Prompt

3. Enter the following information on the command line and press the 'Enter' key.

<PATH>\jmaster.exe <USERID>,<PASSWORD>,<J2EEProfile value in jmaster.ini>

NOTE:  The "J2EEProfile value in jmaster.ini" is the value that would normally be selected from the Application Server dropdown when manually running the Job Master application.

Common Problems

Problem: Receive "Unable to find profile for Application Server: [VALUE]" error

Solution: Verify a SPACE character does not exist between the comma and the J2EEProfiles variable entered on the command line

Solution: Verify the J2EEProfile variable entered on the command line matches the value in the jmaster.ini file

Problem: Receive "Unable to communicate with application server selected" error

Solution: Verify the application server associated to the J2EEProfile variable entered on the command line is running (url to the server is located jmaster.ini file)

Problem: Receive "ORA-01017: invalid username/password; logon denied" error

Solution: Verify the USERNAME and PASSWORD variables entered on the command line are correct

Problem: Receive "Error Number 2" for "Null object reference, n_cst_appmgr_jmaster, of_checkcommandline, Line in Script = 14" error and Job Master immediately crashes

Solution: Verify there are no missing commas separating the USERNAME, PASSWORD and J2EEProfile variables entered on the command line

NOTE: Regarding Windows PowerShell - The same Error Number 2 can occur when scripting a solution using Windows PowerShell to start the Background Processor Job Master (jmaster.exe) process.  This is caused by missing double-quotation marks around the parameters being passed.

Example \jmaster.exe "bpadmin,bpadmin1,Oracle Support Environment"

Problem: Job Master application starts, but the process does not appear on the Windows Task bar

Solution: Click the Job Master application and the process will appear on the Windows Task bar.  There is no solution that prevents this behavior from occurring at start up.  The behavior is related to PowerBuilder issue and benign.
