Deployment Planning

The following documents may prove useful for deployment planning prior to installation:

For compatibility of various Unified Communications Components, see:

Installation

The following links are short-cuts to sections within the full Installation and Configuration Guide (Release 3.0.2) (unless otherwise specified) that are specific to Convergence:

Quick reference for deploying the whole Unified Communications Suite on a single host for evaluation has not yet been updated for Unified Communications Suite 8 but the older document for 7 Update 6 is still available and can be found in the following step-by-step guides:

The following document provides additional advice if the installation is taking place on Solaris Zones:

Upgrading

The upgrade to Convergence 3 cannot be performed by simply applying a patch but must utilize the Communications Suite Installer.

Likewise, the upgrade from Convergence 1 to Convergence 2 cannot be performed by simply applying a patch but must utilize the Communications Suite Installer and these instructions are still available here.

NOTE: Due to changes in the Dojo Toolkit (the AJAX toolkit utilized by Convergence) it is not possible to directly use customizations written for Convergence 1 "as is" once upgraded to Convergence 2 or Convergence 3.  Therefore, if a Convergence 1 deployment uses customizations, it is necessary to install a development Convergence 2 or Convergence 3 server in order to port and test the customizations prior to upgrading production servers.

Administration

The Convergence Administration Guide contains a lot of useful information including the following most commonly referenced sections:

Customization

Customization in Convergence 3 should be compatible with customizations in Convergence 2 Patch 1 onwards, although minor tweaks may be necessary depending on whether changes have been made to the underlying Convergence client code itself.  It is best to verify customizations are working as desired prior to rolling out Convergence 3 to production.

The customization framework described in the following documents applies to Convergence 3 and Convergence 2 Patch 1 or later:

Note: To implement customizations in Convergence 2 it is necessary to apply Patch 1 (or later revision).

Note: Due to the changes in the Dojo Toolkit it is necessary to port any Convergence 1 customizations to the new file layout beginning in Convergence 2 Patch 1.  It may also be necessary to rewrite the customizations due to underlying code changes in the Convergence client code itself.

For reference, the Convergence 1 customization guide can be found here:

It is advisable to keep current with Convergence patches since new features are occasionally added which allow additional customizations to be implemented - i.e. not all customization examples in the documentation will work unless the system is running the most current patch.

Knowledge Articles

To browse or search all Convergence knowledge articles in MOS, switch to the "Knowledge" tab then in the "Knowledge Base" section under "Select a product or product line" you need to choose "Oracle Communications Convergence" (the easiest way to do this is to type "convergence" in the field and select the full product name from the list provided in the dropdown). Once the product is correctly selected then clicking on "Search" without entering any search terms should allow the full collection to be browsed. Naturally, entering a search term will restrict the list returned to only articles relevant to that term.
