Sending Mail in Convergence Fails with Alert "SMTP Error" (Doc ID 1306481.1)

When pressing the "Send" button for a completed message, Convergence returns an alert message:

"SMTP Error"

Firebug in Firefox will show a request like this:©=Sent&dojo.preventCache=1300816606490&draft=&from=%22f%20l%22%20<>&html=&mbox=&parts=&priority=1&receipt=none&replyto=&smtp=true&subject=this%20is%20a%20test%20of%20self-send.&text=&

And a response like this:

[646940,'SMTP Error',0,471]

Using "Copy error" in Firebug shows an error similar to:

Error: SMTP Error
Line 0

mshttpd's http log will show the SMTP server hostname cannot be resolved or the connection is refused, e.g.:

[22/Mar/2011:11:20:43 -0700] starcraft2 httpd[12526]: General Notice:[] created message <>
[22/Mar/2011:11:20:43 -0700] starcraft2 httpd[12526]: Network Error: SMTP connect to failed: Connection refused
[22/Mar/2011:11:20:43 -0700] starcraft2 httpd[12526]: General Warning: saveSmtp failed: SMTP Error


This problem could occur if the SMTP server is disabled, or the port of the SMTP server was changed.
