Information in this document applies to any platform.

Goal

In Convergence Calendar Week View, some years show the week number as 53 for the 1st of January.

When setting the Calendar Configuration preferences (Under Options -> Calendar -> General) for the first day of the week to start on Sunday, the 1st of January 1899 shows up as week 53
When setting the first day of the week to start on Monday, the 1st of January 1901 shows up as week 53.

For example:

year 1900, Jan 1st is week number 1 (when week starts Monday)
year 1900, Jan 1st is week number 53 (when week starts Sunday)

year 1901, Jan 1st is week number 53 (when week starts Monday)
year 1901, Jan 1st is week number 52 (when week starts Sunday)

year 2013, Jan 1st is week number 53 (when week starts Sunday or Monday)

Why is the week number sometimes 53?
