Does Messaging Server Add a Delay Before Sending the IMAP Authentication Failure Response ? (Doc ID 1545471.1)

Last updated on OCTOBER 19, 2022

Applies to:

Oracle Communications Messaging Server - Version 5.2.0 and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Goal

In case an authentication attempt is rejected by the IMAP Server - eg. due to a login failure - then the mail user will notice a delay before the Authentication failure response is received.

This following examples shows that user ash01 attempts an IMAP login using an invalid password. The Messaging Server respondes with "Authentication failed" in the next 3 seconds.

Is this delay intentional ?  Why is this happening ?
