How to setup split an existing messages store partition into separate file systems for msg and idx of each partition - on an existing system?

Best Practices for Oracle Communications Messaging Server and Oracle Solaris ZFS describes how to create a new message store partition with separate file systems for the two types of data in: index and messages. But if you already have a existing Messaging Server backend message store with an existing partition on a single file system, how can you split that to follow those recommendations?
