Why does mboxutil Show a Different Total Size from df? (Doc ID 1591019.1)

Goal

Explain why the total of the space used according to mboxutil -l statistic (total size from all messages) is larger than the space used indicated by the df -h command.

For example, while the total of the size of all messages in all folders reported by mboxutil -l was 814GB, df -h only showed 669GB used (for the same filesystem):
