Symptoms

The email address  "usera+12!3@oracle.com" is being interpreted incorrectly by the MTA and leads to an error of 'Illegal host/domain name found' in the mail.log file:

For clarity, the email address "usera+12!3@example.com" is mail intended for the user "usera" of the domain "example.com", intended to be directly delivered to this user's folder "12!3":

  <user part of email address> + <folder name> @ <domain part of email address>
