Channelized Port Concatenation Problem (Doc ID 1934603.1)

Last updated on FEBRUARY 05, 2023

Applies to:

Oracle Communications MetaSolv Solution - Version 6.2.1 and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

Actual Behavior

There are two methods to build and install equipment using MetaSolv Solution; right click on mounting position and use Add or set up a list of Equipment Specs within inventory and right click on a spec and select Install then Install At. When the card is installed, the system takes the channelization hierarchy and concatenates the node addressing fields from the Equipment Spec to create the port numbers. All the layers concatenate correctly when using the "Add" method. However, the channelized port numbering concatenates incorrectly when using the "Install/Install At" process. It appears the "Add" method creates the port names by setting up Soft overrides at the appropriate layers so the port will correctly concatenate the port address for each layer. However, the "Install/Install At" method appears to be leaving the overrides set to 'None' so the ports are concatenated incorrectly.

Expected Behavior

The channelized port numbering should be properly concatenated when using the "Install/Install At" process

Steps

The issue can be reproduced at will with the following steps:

1. Build/Install equipment using the "Add" method and very the results

2. Build/Install equipment using the "Install/Install At" method and very the results

"Add" Method (Works Correctly)

"Install > Install At" Method (Works Incorrectly)
--------------------------------------------------------------
[|] 16-0-1 LUCENT SM/DNU-S/STE 5E13 DNU-S 16-0-1
 | - [|] 01 LUCENT SM/DNU-S/STE/STS1 DNU-S-STS1

 | |-=D= 16-0-1-2-3 (DS0-Unassigned)
 | |-=D= 16-0-1-2-4 (DS0-Unassigned)
 | |-=D= 16-0-1-2-5 (DS0-Unassigned)

Additional Information for Equipment Example Above

* Shelf equipment spec Node Address = 16-0-1

* 16-0-1-1 and 16-0-1-2 STS channels are obtained from the Shelf Node Address and its Mounting Position Slot Node Address

* DS1 and DS0 layer port addressing is obtained by taking the STS port name and adding the Port Node address value from the card’s Port Node Address for each layer

Business Impact

Due this issue, equipment having multiple channelization layers can be built with incorrect port numbers on lower level channels (DS1 and DS0) when using the "Install > Install At" method. This adds confusion while provisioning and using the "Add" method is a slower process, both resulting in a loss of productivity.

Workaround

Use the "Add" method to build and install equipment with multiple channelization layers. Do NOT use the "Install > Install At" method until it is fixed.
