Symptoms
Unable to start the MetaSolv Solution application server. The server throws "Permission denied" errors on the EmbeddedLDAP.log and EmbeddedLDAP.tran files as well as a "java.lang.ClassCastException: com.octetstring.vde.backend.BackendRoot cannot be cast to com.octetstring.vde.backend.standard.BackendStandard" error in the ${SERVER_NAME}.mss.log when attempting to start and then forced to shut down.

Due to this issue, the environment cannot be used.
Changes
The behavior was observed while upgrading from 6.2.1.XXX to 6.2.1.804, but there is no correlation to the upgrade process or product.
