Goal

We are trying to create an application layer health check for a milter server.

Is there an equivalent of EHLO to get a banner back from milter to know it is healthy?

The environment includes load balancers in front of various collections of milter servers.  So knowing it is working from the MTA does not necessarily mean that all the milter servers behind the load balancer are working.
