Mail Sent To root Delivered To Wrong Mailbox

Information in this document applies to any platform.
Mail sent to root (ex: email@example.com) is getting delivered to the wrong mailbox.
We changed a mailAlternateAddress from one entry to another and the mail is still delivered to the old mailbox.
used to be set for the account:
is now set on the account:
dn: uid=sysops,ou=people,o=example.com,o=isp account
(and was removed from the previous account)
Since the change, mail sent to firstname.lastname@example.org is still going to the inbox for the admin_user account instead of the sysops account.
