What Is Expected Client Behavior When IM Frontend Has Multiple Backends Configured And Backend Server Goes Down? (Doc ID 2199532.1)

Last updated on DECEMBER 05, 2019

Applies to:

Oracle Communications Instant Messaging Server - Version 10.0.0 and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Goal

If all Instant Messaging frontends are configured to talk to multiple backends. eg:

iim_mux.serverport=IM_HOST1:45222,IM_HOST2:45222,IM_HOST3:45222

Question: What is the expected user experience if that backend goes down or is restarted?

Will the frontend switch all the users' connections over to another backend without any disconnect/reconnect of the client connection? Or will the XMPP client see this as a disconnect/reconnect?
