Symptoms

A random remote hostname is chosen if no name is specified on 'HELO' or if a bogus name is specified, for example, when using mconnect.

Here are some examples:

$ mconnect host1.example.com
connecting to host host1.example.com (IP ADD), port 25
connection open
220 host1.example.com -- Server ESMTP (Oracle Communications Messaging Server 8.0.2.3.20180614 64bit (built Jun 14 2018))
HELO
251 host1.example.com system name not given in HELO command, relay3.example.com [IP ADD].
MAIL FROM: userA@example.com
250 2.5.0 Address Ok
RCPT TO: userA@example.com
250 2.1.5 userA@example.com Ok
