Length Of Blinded Table Column Is Multiplied By Factor 4 In The Business Area View Column (Doc ID 2806718.1)

Last updated on JULY 13, 2023

Applies to:

Oracle Life Sciences Data Management Workbench - Version 2.5.3.1 and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Goal

In Oracle Life Sciences Data Management Workbench, when extracting data from the Business Area (BA) the length of the blinded table column has increased in length with a factor 4.

Example:

1. The blinded table column is defined as VARCHAR2(20).

2. When describing the BA table, the column length appears to be the same VARCHAR2(20 char).

3. When the data is extracted from the BA table (view) column the length is increased with a factor 4. This can be demonstrated by created a temp tables as select * from BA table. When the local table is described, the column length is multiplied by 4 and it is now VARCHAR2(80 bytes).

This happens in table columns of data type VARCHAR2, and not in NUMBER ones.

What can be done to avoid this increase in length?

Will the default value for NLS_LENGTH_SEMANTICS remain default to BYTE at system/database level for next upgrade to DMW 3.0 on Oracle 19c?
