Error "Bad public user name or password. ORA-00542: Failure during SSL handshake" When Attempting to Test the P6 Professional Connection to an Oracle Database Configured for SSL / TLS (Doc ID 3006570.1)

Symptoms

When attempting to test a new database alias configuration in P6 Professional, the following error occurs.  The connection is successful in SQLPlus.

Bad public user name or password. ORA-00542:Failure during SSL handshake

 

The issue can be reproduced at will with the following steps:

  1. Configure the Oracle client with SSL in TNS.
  2. Testing the SSL TNS entry via SQLPlus is successful.
  3. In P6 Professional, configure the database connection to an Oracle database using SSL.
  4. After the connection is configured and saved, click the Test Connection button.
  5. The test fails with the reported error.
