Unable To Approve The Contract And The Contract Status Shows As ‘Pending Approval’

Unable to approve the contract

User has amended a contract and sent it for approval (auto-approve).
The contract is validated and showed no errors but the contract status still shows as ‘Pending approval’.
Trying to stop the approval in order to submit it again, get this error message: “You cannot stop approval of a contract that is approved or for which the approval process has failed. (OKC-196214)”

How can we approve the contract to make it Active?
