SSO: Attempted Access via "SP Initiated" and Session Timeouts Error ( ErrorReason=6 )

Symptoms
In an OTAC (Taleo TEE) zone configured for SSO:
- A session timeout lands the user on an authentication error page instead of being redirected to the Identity Provider's SSO page for re-authentication.
- SP-initiated SSO access to the zone fails and user lands on an authentication error page.
For those with the problem, the user is redirected to the following page: /smartorg/argus/authenticationError.jsf?errorReason=6
