Status Does Not change After Signing a Document With Logged Error [Could not find user associated with the DocuSign account]

Information in this document applies to any platform.
After a document has been fully signed, the DocuSign status in CPQ Cloud stays at "Pending" rather than moving to "Signed".
The following error appears in the DocuSign logs:
https://companyname.bigmachines.com/notification/receiver :: Error - Could not find user associated with the DocuSign account UserName@companyname.com.
