OPatch Error When Patching a Java Cloud Service Environment (Doc ID 2442158.1)

Last updated on JANUARY 08, 2024

Applies to:

Java Cloud Service - Version N/A and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

Patching a Java Cloud Service (JCS) instance using the interface in the JCS Console is not allowed when there is an upper-stack product like WebCenter Portal (WCP) or WebCenter Sites (WCS) installed. For more information, see <Note 2441717.1> - Scale-In/Scale-Out Fails After Patching via JCS Console Where an Upper-Stack Product is Installed. The workaround for this limitation is to use OPatch to patch the JCS environment.

However, when the WLS July 2018 PSU is applied to a JCS instance running WLS 12.2.1.2, an error is seen that 'Destination File "/u01/app/oracle/middleware/oracle_common/modules/com.oracle.cie.encryption_2.5.0.0.jar" does not exists or is not writeable.' OPatch fails and the patch cannot be applied.
