Order Confirmation Email is Not Received with Custom Template (Doc ID 2477772.1)

Symptoms

Order Placed email is not being sent when custom template is used which includes a custom property (e.g. "abcOrderId").

Reproducible Steps:
1. Go to Storefront
2. Add a product to a cart
3. Checkout
4. Log in 
5. Fill out shipping address, payment information, shipping method and place an order. --> An order is successfully submitted but the email is not received.
