Customer Request to add 'Non-Binary' to Gender LOV

Customer has requested to add 'Non-Binary' to Gender LOV. Is this possible?
The Common Lookup Type SEX (Person's Gender) doesn't have any options to add a value to the list. For US Legislation, only two values are available 'Male' and 'Female', the customer has requested to add 'Non-Binary' as the third option.
