Setting Default Home Page Layout To Newsfeed Prevents The Loading Of Application Pages (Doc ID 2591508.1)

Symptoms

When you set the Default Home Page Layout to "New Feed" in the Configuration ->Appearance , the user is presented with a screen that they cannot use or exit.

Navigation / Steps to Reproduce:
1 – Login as a user with Administrator / Developer privileges
2 - Create a sandbox
3 - Set the sandbox as Active
4 - Navigate to Configuration->Appearance
5 - Change the Default Home Page Layout = News feed
6 - Click Apply.
7 - Now the buttons are missing and there is no means to navigate
8 - Close the window and come back to the URL and you will see a partially rendered page with no options.

Changes

 Global Search Icon was hidden via customization in the Global Header region of the Home Page.
