can we increase the value set length for existing segments in COA after 1 or 2 years from Go-live

Currently we are collecting the requirements for configure the system, we wanted to know can we increase the value set length for existing segments in Chart of accounts after 1 or 2 years from Go-live date.

If yes, is there any impact in the business and existing transactions.
