Goal
This document intents to show one possible solution to automatically configure the HOSTNAME for a custom image imported into Oracle Cloud Infrastructure.
When a custom image is imported into OCI, the hostname for the machine is display as follows.
As shown above, this includes the Static hostname and the Transient hostname, this is because when an instance is created using a custom image this does not automatically sets up the given hostname on the OCI console when creating the instance.
This can be changed manually but this requires to change the hostname using hostname or hostnamectl commands on the instance and also to modify some of the files like /etc/oci-hostname.conf to preserve the configuration, this is going to be required on every single instance created from the custom image, this will become a tedious work.
