Symptoms

Unable to merge customer parties with different Tax Registration Numbers

Imported some customers twice, one with  tax registration number with country code prefix (eg: IT1234567890) and one with tax registration number without  country code prefix (1234567890).

The merge request gets rejected with message "Party merge cannot continue because the From Party Tax Profile type equals to THIRD PARTY and From Party tax attributes(Registration Number) are not same as To Party Tax attributes(Registration Number)".
