Count Distinct Aggregation of an Empty String in a Data Set is Incorrect (Doc ID 2683188.1)

Last updated on NOVEMBER 03, 2023

Applies to:

Oracle Analytics Cloud - Version 105.5.0 to 105.6.0 [Release 105.3]
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

1. A Data Set is created from a Subject Area and includes an Attribute column. (For example: Student ID has a text / character datatype.)

2. A Data Flow is created for that Data Set ...
An Add Column step evaluates the Attribute column via a CASE statement, and the new column can be either the same Attribute column value or blank. (For example: CASE WHEN Grade IN ('A','B','C') THEN "Student ID" END)
In the Save Data step of the Data Flow, the new column is set as a Measure column with COUNT DISTINCT aggregation.
... and the Data Flow is run.

3. A Project is created on the output Data Set from the Data Flow but the aggregate value of the new column for blank (empty string) values is incorrect.  (For example:  See that the aggregate value of the new Column is one (1), when the expected value is (0).)
