Purpose

This document provides an overview of the strategic plans and future direction for the Federated Partitions feature introduced in OAC Essbase (12c) and Essbase 19c on OCI via Marketplace listing.

Overview

As part of OAC Essbase and Essbase on OCI via the Marketplace listing, a new type of partition named Federated Partition (also known as Real Time partition) was introduced. This undocumented feature was in preview only (beta) for users.

This Statement provides strategic direction for the supported source systems for the Federated Partitions.

Product Strategy

OAC Essbase is no longer available, please see - Oracle Support Document 2647085.1.

Federated Partition option will only be available for Essbase deployed on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI). Additionally, federated partitions can be defined only for the Oracle Autonomous Database as the source starting with version 21c. Oracle plans to dedicate engineering and QA effort to improve the functionality and performance of federated partitions defined on the Oracle Autonomous Database.  This will allow customers to seamlessly leverage the Oracle Cloud Infrastructure to run their analytic workloads.

Conclusion

Oracle plans to include the federated partitions feature only on the cloud, optimized for Oracle Cloud Infrastructure specifically with the Oracle Autonomous Database.
