Unable to convert a standard item to a SKU item

STEPS
-----------------------
The issue can be reproduced at will with the following steps:
1. Navigator > Product Management > Items
2. Items> Manage Items > Query the exiting Style Item
3. In SKU Section go to Menu and select Actions/Convert Standard Item to SKU
4. Search the item to convert.
Page got hang and sometime gives error .
