Data Source Connection Failed In Narrative Reporting (Doc ID 2848541.1)

Symptoms

When opening a Reports report in Narrative Reporting the following error message "Unable to communicate with the data source ABC . Try again or select a different data source." 

When testing the Data Source connection from "Test Connection" button, I receive an error message saying "Connection Failed".

And also when trying to create a new Data Source connection, I receive a service error message.
