SAR Tool Not Collecting Data As Expected (Doc ID 2866685.1)

Symptoms

SAR data is not available for the entire day (in Oracle Linux 7) or is corrupt in (Oracle Linux 6).

In Oracle Linux 6, full data corruption is observed:

# sar -u
Invalid system activity file: /var/log/sa/sa13

In Oracle Linux 7, partial data is provided (data prior to the Scale-Up activity is not available):

# sar -u
Linux 4.14.35-1902.306.2.10.el7uek.x86_64 (hostname) 02/13/19 _x86_64_ (6 CPU)
17:00:01  CPU  %user  %nice  %system  %iowait  %steal  %idle

Changes

Memory and CPU resources were hot-added to the system.

# journalctl -k | grep -i hot
