How To Extend a Non-Root Filesystem (Doc ID 2891220.1)

Last updated on OCTOBER 04, 2023

Applies to:

Oracle Cloud Infrastructure - Version N/A to N/A [Release 1.0]
Linux OS - Version Oracle Linux 7.0 to N/A [Release OL7 to OL8U4]
Generic Linux

Goal

Explain how to extend a non-root XFS or EXT filesystem that is hosted in a single Storage Volume in one of the below Storage Layouts:

  1. A Filesystem directly on top of a Storage Volume;
  2. A Filesystem on a Partition created in a Storage Volume;
  3. A Filesystem within an LVM directly on top of a Storage Volume;
  4. A Filesystem within an LVM on a Partition created in a Storage Volume.
This procedure does not apply to the expansion of the root filesystem, to filesystems that spread across multiple Storage Volumes (through the use of LVM or other mechanisms), nor to other filesystem types (such as TMPfs, Swap, OCFS, etc).
