Symptoms
Promotional Markdown (Tran Code 15) Created With Non Merch Item Return (Tran Code 3)
Scenario :
1. A customer walks in saying he lost his gift card.
2. The cashier needs to take money from the register to buy the customer a replacement gift card ($25).
3. To get the money, the cashier initiates a $25 RETURN transaction at the register for a non-merchandise item (MISC EXPENSE). Note that this non-merch item has a $0 retail at this location.
4. The return transaction is recorded in the RTLOG and sent to RESA.
The return transaction is eventually recorded in TRAN_DATA / TRAN_DATA_HISTORY as a Tran Code 3, along with a Tran Code 15.
In MONTH_DATA, Tran Code 15's are used in ending inventory valuations. However, Tran Code 3's are not. We believe this to be a logic defect particular to this use case of non-merch items, as the promotional markdowns are captured in inventory valuation but not the returns.
