After Field Change Trigger On Account Change Is Not Working (Doc ID 2926188.1)

Symptoms

User has custom field on Opportunity object called ABC_c.

They want field ABC to be populated immediately after we select the new account before save by a field trigger.?

For that They have implemented a field trigger on field change of TargetPartyId
setattribute('ABC_c', TargetPartyId)

Now user selects value in account name and click save then ABC is stamped as corrected.
But without save if they try to select value in ABC then its frozen until we click save.
