Data Imported in Custom Object Is Not Linking to Parent Object (Doc ID 2954070.1)

Symptoms

 Create a standard alone custom object.  Use this custom object to create a custom subtab under a parent object (e.g Account)

Use import management to import data to this custom object, but the data imported is not seen in the subtab under the parent object.  The data however, is seen in the custom object summary page.
