OCI Compute - Add Additional Windows User to the Remote Desktop Users Group (Doc ID 2974701.1)

Last updated on OCTOBER 13, 2023

Applies to:

OCI Compute - Version N/A and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Goal

On Windows Server, the default user 'OPC' by default has Remote Desktop (RDP) access to the Instance by being in the "Remote Desktop Users Group" on the Windows Operating System (OS). If additional users are created on the Windows OS, they will not have access to RDP without further configuration inside the OS.

Without doing this additional configuration, when attempting to log in with the newly created user you will receive the following error:

To sign in remotely, you need the right to sign in through Remote Desktop Services. By default, members of the Remote Desktop Users group have this right. If the group you're in doesn't have this right, or if the right has been removed from the Remote Desktop Users group, you need to be granted this right manually.
