OCI Object Storage - List Objects with a 'Delete Marker' using Command Line Interface (Doc ID 3000922.1)

Last updated on FEBRUARY 06, 2024

Applies to:

Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Object Storage - Version N/A and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Goal

While having Object Storage Versioning enabled on the objects inside an OCI Storage Bucket, previously deleted object may have a delete marker created.

The most recent version of the object becomes the prior version when it is deleted without targeting a specific version, and a unique delete marker designates the deletion point. The metadata of a remove marker is quite limited. Every object within a deleted folder has a delete marker created for it. To make the deleted version the most recent version of the object, remove the delete marking.

The uploaded object becomes the most recent version of the item when it has the same name as the delete marker. The delete marker is still there. An object may have more than one deletion marker, and any of the earlier iterations of the object may be retrieved.

See Object Version Deletion for additional reference.

The goal is to filter and fetch only objects versions where a delete marker exists on the objects. Afterwards, based on the query, the objects may be deleted for freeing up space inside the OCI Storage Bucket.
