SSL failure error "unable to find valid certification path to requested target" connecting to external site (Doc ID 3011942.1)

Symptoms

Getting the following exception while trying to connect to an external endpoint.

The error happens even the WLS JKS truststore and the Java cacerts files were updated with the valid certificate.

Changes

The external endpoint certificate has changed. Need to import the new certificate into the trust store. The local JKS trust store and java "cacerts"  files were updated with the certificate
