RDBPROD: OpenVMS File Protections on Oracle Rdb Database Files (Doc ID 1120959.1)

Last updated on APRIL 16, 2024

Applies to:

Oracle Rdb Server on OpenVMS - Version 7.2.4 to 7.2.4.2 [Release 7.2]
HP OpenVMS Alpha
HP OpenVMS Itanium

Goal

According to the Oracle Rdb Installation and Configuration Guide Release 7.2:

Section B.4 "OpenVMS Protection of Oracle Rdb Files"

Oracle Rdb sets the following OpenVMS default protection for all database files:

SYSTEM:READ,WRITE,EXECUTE,DELETE; OWNER:READ; GROUP: , WORLD:

This affects the following files:

  •   Database root (.RDB) and its associated ACL
  •   Recovery-unit journal (.RUJ)
  •   After-image journal (.AIJ)
  •   Snapshot (.SNP)
  •   Storage area (.RDA)

However, when a database is created, for example:

OWNER is set to READ, WRITE rather than just READ. Is this a documentation error, a bug or a system set-up problem?
