RDBPROD: TRUNCATE TABLE or DROP INDEX May Leave Wasted Space
(Doc ID 1154195.1)
Last updated on APRIL 16, 2024
Applies to:
Oracle Rdb Server on OpenVMS - Version 7.2.4.1 to 7.2.4.1 [Release 7.2]HP OpenVMS Itanium
HP OpenVMS Alpha
Symptoms
When performing a TRUNCATE TABLE or a DROP INDEX on a HASHED INDEX stored in mixed-format area, not all buckets for records are effectively removed.
This may lead to wasted space on a page. New INSERTs may not find enough space on a page and overflow records need to be created, which may lead to declining performance.
Changes
This problem occurs only under Rdb 7.2.4.1, on both Alpha and Itanium
