RDBPROD: TRUNCATE TABLE or DROP INDEX May Leave Wasted Space (Doc ID 1154195.1)

Last updated on AUGUST 09, 2016

Applies to:

Oracle Rdb Server on OpenVMS - Version to [Release 7.2]
HP OpenVMS Itanium
HP OpenVMS Alpha

When performing a TRUNCATE TABLE or a DROP INDEX on a HASHED INDEX stored in mixed-format area, not all buckets for records are effectively removed.

This may lead to wasted space on a page. New INSERTs may not find enough space on a page and overflow records need to be created, which may lead to declining performance.

This problem occurs only under Rdb, on both Alpha and Itanium
