RDBPROD: How to limit access to an encrypted column within an Rdb table/view? (Doc ID 1302849.1)

Last updated on OCTOBER 08, 2023

Applies to:

Oracle Rdb Server on OpenVMS - Version 7.2 and later
HP OpenVMS Itanium
HP OpenVMS Alpha

Goal

You have a sample table with an encrypted column. No client/user has access to the table.

A function decrypts a column. One identifier has execute for this function. No client/user has direct execute privilege for the function.

A view against the table includes the function acting on the encrypted column. One client/user has been granted select against the view but no execute on the function.

Client/user selects from the view and the returned information includes the result of the function decrypting the column. The client/user should not see the decrypted information.

Is there a way to limit access to specific, encrypted in this case, columns within a table/view?
