Symptoms
The following message appears in the alert log file at alter database open:
Spfile <SPFILE.ORA> is in old pre-11 format and compatible >= 11.0.0; converting to new H.A.R.D. compliant format
Depending on the circumstances and the used platform, the message can also appear during the mount stage or even when the database is being shut down.
