10gR2 Database Creation Fails with 11gR2 ASM storage: ORA-15045, ORA-17502, ORA-15081 (Doc ID 1384180.1)

Symptoms

Creation of a 10gR2 database, when ASM storage is 11gR2, fails:

ORACLE instance started.
Total System Global Area 1610612736 bytes
Fixed Size 1273948 bytes
Variable Size 385879972 bytes
Database Buffers 1207959552 bytes
Redo Buffers 15499264 bytes
CREATE DATABASE "TEST210G"
*
ERROR at line 1:
ORA-01501: CREATE DATABASE failed
ORA-00200: control file could not be created
ORA-00202: control file: '+DB_DATA'
ORA-15045: ASM file name '+DB_DATA' is not in reference form
ORA-17502: ksfdcre:5 Failed to create file +DB_DATA
ORA-15081: failed to submit an I/O operation to a disk


No issues for creating 11gR2 databases though.
