Job Fails With ORA-02391: Exceeded Simultaneous Sessions_per_user Limit (Doc ID 1393356.1)

Symptoms

A job owned by PREF_USER, which is assigned unlimited SESSIONS_PER_USER profile sometimes fails by the following error.

ORA-12012: error on auto execute of job 46929
ORA-02391: exceeded simultaneous SESSIONS_PER_USER limit
Unexpected error 2391 in job queue process


The owner of the job is assigned to unlimited SESSIONS_PER_USER profile:

SQL> select profile from dba_users where username = 'PREF_USER';

PROFILE
------------------------------
APPLICATION_USER


SQL> select PROFILE, RESOURCE_NAME, RESOURCE_TYPE, LIMIT from dba_profiles where PROFILE = 'APPLICATION_USER'

PROFILE              RESOURCE_NAME            RESOURCE_TYPE   LIMIT
-------------------- ------------------------ --------------- ---------------
APPLICATION_USER     COMPOSITE_LIMIT          KERNEL          DEFAULT

Changes

RESOURCE_LIMIT was recently set to true.
