Goal

Oracle Rdb has several optional components that can connect to other computers such as Hot Standby and remote database access using RDB$REMOTE types of connections. This article is meant to describe how Rdb interacts with the network when making a connection. 

This article will discuss Hot Standby and remote Rdb connections only. Other Rdb options work in a similar fashion.

NOTE: The data used below are not actual PRODUCTION or Customer Data.  They are being used ONLY to demonstrate the problem discussed in this note.
