Instructions to Configure Host and Service Monitor to Listen on ALL Network Interfaces (Doc ID 1944304.1)

Last updated on NOVEMBER 08, 2022

Applies to:

Big Data Appliance Integrated Software - Version 2.3.1 to 4.0 [Release 2.3 to 4.0]
Linux x86-64

Goal

On Oracle Big Data Appliance, Host Monitor and Service Monitor by default can only be accessed using Infiniband IP address. Trying to access Host Monitor and Service Monitor using Ethernet IP will fail either from BDA node or a Non BDA node (Client/Edge server). This will cause an issue when adding a Non BDA Node to BDA Cluster since Non BDA node(s) can only access BDA using Ethernet interface.

Also CM is only listening on the private/infiniband interface on Host and Service Monitor Ports which are 9995 and 9997.

# lsof -nP | grep LIST|grep 9995
java      17616 cloudera-scm  297u     IPv4            2262657       0t0        TCP <PRIVATE_IP_HOST-OR-SERVICE_MONITOR>:9995 (LISTEN)

An internal Bug 18141687 is filed such that in future release BDA, by default Host/Service Monitor will be setup to listen on ALL interfaces.

This document provides instructions on how to configure Host and Service Monitor in Cloudera Manager(CM) to listen on ALL network interfaces i.e. both Ethernet and Infiniband.
