Purpose

The purpose of this note is to publish some recommended fixes in hopes of avoiding problems associated with performance and failure to reproduce desired plans when using SQL Plan Management in 11.2.0.3.x.

Scope

This note recommends desirable patches in 11.2.0.3 that address performance and reproduction problems when using the SQL Plan Management feature.

Note that some reproduction bugs cause the creation of defective plans, so applying these patches before capturing plans from the cursor cache is necessary to avoid them.  So when using SPM to avoid plan regressions during an upgrade, the appropriate set of patches should be applied not only to the post-upgrade environment, but also the pre-upgrade environment prior to capturing plans.  See the following for patches for other Oracle releases:

<Document 2034706.1> Things to Consider for 11.2.0.4 to Avoid Problems with SQL Plan Management (SPM)
<Document 2035897.1> Things to Consider When Upgrading From 12.1.0.1 to Avoid Problems with SQL Plan Management (SPM)
<Document 2035898.1> Things to Consider for 12.1.0.2 to Avoid Problems with SQL Plan Management (SPM)

If you do not find a patch for your specific version and OS, please open a Service Request with details on the patch needed. Please include a list of patches already applied (opatch lsinventory -detail) as well as any other patches you intend to apply.
