Purpose

This document provides instructions to boot an Oracle Big Data Appliance node into single user mode for tasks such as resetting a lost root password or fixing the file system, partitions,  etc. 

Also on BDA nodes, there is one other option to fix file system or reset password by booting into USB Rescue mode.  For this see:
