This is a step by step guide with the basic checks to be performed when the email alerts are not received from AVDF server.

Problem a) The SMTP server is configured using DNS name and it cannot be resolved by AVDF server |
Problem b) AVDF server cannot communicate with the mail server |
Problem c) There are invalid objects in the database |
Problem d) Java processes are stuck |
Problem e) Number of free inodes in /var/lib/oracle are exhausted |
Problem g) Number of open cursors is exceeded: |
Problem h): The sender address is rejected by the mail server because it is invalid or due to other restrictions at mail server level |
Problem i): The mail server is using a secure port to send the mails and the trusted certificates of the mail server are missing from the AVDF SSL trust store |
Problem j) AVDF server has been restored from a backup which would have contained orphaned email alert notifications in queue. |
Problem k) The mail server is using TLS1.2 to communicate over SSL while AVDF server is using Java 1.6 which is not aware of TLS1.2. |
