Last updated on JULY 25, 2021

Applies to:

Big Data Appliance Integrated Software - Version 4.10.0 and later
Linux x86-64

After upgrade to BDA V4.10, the Spark 2 cluster verification may fail 1) After upgrade in the final cluster verification phase, 2) When running the cluster verification with "./mammoth -c", or when running the test standalone via How to Run the Oracle Spark 2 Cluster Verification Test Standalone on the BDA (Doc ID 2326182.1).

The Spark 2 cluster verification fails with an Exception as below:

Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: org/apache/hadoop/fs/FSDataInputStream
at org.apache.spark.deploy.SparkSubmitArguments.handleUnknown(SparkSubmitArguments.scala:465)
at org.apache.spark.launcher.SparkSubmitOptionParser.parse(
at org.apache.spark.deploy.SparkSubmitArguments.<init>(SparkSubmitArguments.scala:104)
at org.apache.spark.deploy.SparkSubmit$.main(SparkSubmit.scala:112)
at org.apache.spark.deploy.SparkSubmit.main(SparkSubmit.scala)
Caused by: java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: org.apache.hadoop.fs.FSDataInputStream
at java.lang.ClassLoader.loadClass(
at sun.misc.Launcher$AppClassLoader.loadClass(
at java.lang.ClassLoader.loadClass(
... 5 more

Additional Symptoms are:

1. When this happens invoking the spark2-shell may also fail with output like below:

2. Further investigation shows:

a) Running the Spark 2 cluster verification standalone on some nodes succeeds.
b) On those same nodes, is it possible to invoke the spark2-shell.

Upgrade to BDA V4.10.
